About Richard
Why this project was written, and the burden behind it.
Richard J Howarth is the author of GRACE: Plain & Simple, a book-centred project devoted to making the core truths of the Christian faith clearer, more connected, and easier to grasp.
He writes for believers who are familiar with the language of Christianity, yet still feel unsure how its central claims fit together. The aim is not to make the faith novel, but to make it plain: to show what stands between humanity and God, why the Cross was necessary, what Christ accomplished, and why grace is more sufficient than many Christians realise.
Before focusing on theological writing and teaching, Richard spent more than twenty-five years as a business turnaround consultant, specialising in identifying root causes in complex systems. Over time, he came to see a similar pattern in Christian life and teaching: recurring guilt without relief, effort without assurance, and answers often given before the real problem had been properly understood.
That background helped shape the burden behind this book. GRACE: Plain & Simple is not built on novelty or controversy, but on diagnosis: a desire to trace confusion back to its source, and to show clearly what the gospel says about sin, grace, the Cross, and the believer’s standing with God.
Alongside degree-level theological study, Richard has spent more than twenty years preaching, teaching, and listening to ordinary Christians wrestle with questions they often feel they should not still have. This project is written for those readers: thoughtful believers who do not need unnecessary complexity, but who do want serious truth explained plainly and well.
Through essays, book material, and related writing, Richard’s aim is to help readers grow in clarity, confidence, and rest in what Christ has done.
